Foreshadowing is a tool writers use to build suspense and prepare the reader for action to come. Mr. Fleischman uses foreshadowing in Jim Ugly on page 3 with the statement, “Who’d think to look for dad on a chicken farm? He’d be safe.”  How do you think Mr Fleischman is setting the reader up for what might be coming up later in the book?

    in chapter two i think the boy ran away because he didn't want his family to kill JIM UGLY.

    I think that he ran away because he did not want his family to "put Jim Ugly to sleep"

      I am guessing that Jake ran away to save Jim Ugly's life, so if he hadn't run away, Jim Ugly would have been put to sleep.

    Hi this is Jessica Dahl!!!!!!

    I think in chapter 2 he needed Jim Ugly to find his Dad and didn't want Jim Ugly to be put to sleep... so he ran away with Jim Ugly to find his Dad. And the person that is taking care of him thinks his Dad took the diamonds and told Jake where they are but he did not so Jim Ugly and Jake ran away to find his Dad.

      I think Jake may have been happy because he wanted to make it without anyone reacting in order to save Jim Ugly.

      But I think that he did because it said... "that the dog is his dad's and his name is Jim Amigo." And it said "He is a one man dog-Dad's dog."
